The suspicion that was reported on Thursday 9th August, following an inconclusive outcome of a clinical inspection, has proven to be negative for FMD. The temporary protection zone that was established outside the original surveillance zone, as a result of the suspicion, has been lifted on Saturday.
The total number of outbreaks still stands at 2.

Already on Friday 10th August, Prime Minister Gordon Brown announced that Britain is "open for business" and the "countryside remains accessible" and that the risk of the spreading out of the protection zone is "low if not negligible".
Commission's decision 2007/554/ec, concerning certain protection measures against FMD in UK and repealing decision 2007/552/ec, was published on Friday 10th August, in the OJ L 210 (p.36).
